Next morning we set off towards Cambridge, exploring many flat but scenic country lanes, may of which were Roman roads.
Cambridge

Jackie at Cambridge - bicycle city!
Cambridge itself was wonderful, a cycle-friendly city, with plenty of bike lanes and even traffic controls for bikes. We stopped in the city briefly before heading back out into the lanes in search of a lunch stop. This was found at a pub in Pidley near Warboys, where we did our next bit of route planning.
The B1104 took us North past Peterborough to Whittesley, and we managed to find some lanes to Spalding, although this proved difficult as most lanes seemed to run East to West!

Again the wind was strong, and with no freewheeling on the flat roads we were getting a bit demoralised.
We slogged up the A16 to Donnington, A52 and B1394 to Heckington, Kirkby La Thorpe, and then the last twenty miles to Lincoln on the B1188. Even as darkness fell the wind didn't let up, and the onset of thick drizzle didn't help, so on arrival at the Youth Hostel we were thorougly exhausted. To make matters worse John & I had to sleep on the floor, - even though we'd booked up in advance, but we too tired too argue about it.
