The
morning dawned fine at Wanlockhead. We decided to visit the lead
mine and museum on the way, which was only a few hundred yards
from the hostel.
It was an interesting visit, but by the time we had done it all
it was almost lunch time so we had an early lunch in the cafe
and set off after midday.
The Mennock pass was a wonderful descent down to the main A76.
Thinking this would be busy, we took the parallel lane on the
opposite side of the river, this was tranquil but after a few
miles there was a significant climb, before descending through
the grounds of Drumlanrig Castle to Thornhill for Ice Creams.
We
were treated to several fly-pasts from a couple of Tornado's,
which looked impressive as they skimmed hilltops, and dissapeared
down glens.
