Several reasons: Riding a bike is probably one of the best ways to travel, and see and enjoy the towns and countryside of Britain. The
challenge of covering the length of Britain, but at a pace which allows
a bit of enjoyment! For Ben: This will be a great challenge and even if he doesn't take up serious cycling ( whatever that is) it will be a thing to remember throughout life. It should also be an educational experince, finding out more about the towns and different areas and cultures of Britain. Along the way we'll be staying with friends we don't often see, so a chance to catch up with them again. AND
now we're being sponsored for two good charities. |
Why
NORTH to SOUTH?
Well, psychologically (cyclelogically?) we should feel as if we're
going home. Devon and Cornwall are arguably the hardest sections, -
we may have friends joining in with us on some of the last sections
of the ride which should provide encouragement. In
1987 we rode from Dover to Cape Wrath, and it
was a headwind most of the way. Weather
in Scotland can be a bit variable in July/August ( post ride update - the midges were the WORST EVER! diabolical!) |
