Kyleakin Youth Hostel
|
We
had an interesting stay at Kyleakin. The Hostel was not as I imagined,
- I'd pictured an older style building, but although somewhat out of
keeping with the surroundings, the place was comforatble and we had
a small twin room to ourseleves. After a good meal in the restaurant
on the opposite side of the road we went to bed early as we were both
quite tired.
At 4am we woke to a deafening siren which was the fire alarm resounding
against the walls of out tiny room.
We ran downstairs in a bit of a daze and joined a few others stood outside
in the drizzle. There were some children crying having been separted
from parents - some smoke was coming from the kitchen accompanied by
a lot of shouting.
It turned out a couple of Ozzie girls decided not to go to bed but stay
up drinking until 4am, when they fancied a fry-up, so they broke into
the wardens kitchen and started one!
One of the girls refused to accept that she'd done anything wrong and
was hurling abuse back at the warden. On the way back to our room we
came across any Ozzie lass in dressing gown with a plate full of scrambled
eggs - bizzare!
