North Somerset - Hinkley Point power plant (nuke) in distance.

I was keen to avoid Taunton - nightmare of a place to cycle through even if it is fairly flat, so at North Petherton we turned off towards Broomfield, and began some steady climbing. At the top of the ridge the signposts had been broken, and I wasn't sure of the best way to get across to the B road. The left turn dropped us steeply down to a stream and back out again, and then down to the village of Kingston St.Mary. There followed some tricky navigating bits through the lanes to get us across the main road and onto the B3227 which we would follow right across North Devon. The weather was warm again, and time was moving on, we stopped at the cafe in Wiveliscombe just before it closed, - time for cakes and ice creams before the next long climb.

It was a drag out of Wivvy, with a swift descent into the Tone Valley, and another long drag out. The phone went and it was Jackie returning from Ilfracombe in the car ftrying to find out where we were. We arranged to meet on th B3227 after Bampton, and met the car on the climb out from Black Cat. Ben was glad to see his mum for the first time in almost 3 weeks! They drove ahead to Molland, and we continued the last 10 miles to meet up with them ast the Black Cock Inn at Molland for an evening meal.
